Yiannis Sakellis is a visual artist born in Cyprus in 1983. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts “Pietro Vannucci” in Perugia, Italy from where he graduated in 2007. In 2006 he received the annual “Adelmo Maribelli“ Prize from the Academy of Fine Arts of Perugia. In 2018 he received a  Master's degree in Art History and Theory at TEPAK, the Cyprus University of Technology, in Limassol, Cyprus.
He held 6 personal exhibitions in Cyprus: “Fiber Optics” (2009), “The Theory of Strings” (2009), “The Observed and the Observer” (2010), "Cappella" (2016) "Fener" (2019) and "The Curtain" (2020). He participated in various exhibitions, both in Cyprus and internationally, such as: The 2nd International Painting Biennale of Chisinau in Republic of Moldova (2011), “Initinere” (2007) in the Historic Centre of Perugia, Italy. " INsite ",

(2012), a site specific exhibition in the archaeological park of Paphos, and the official program for the Cypriot Presidency of the E.U. 50 years of Artistic Creation, (2010) for the celebration of the 50 years of the Republic of Cyprus. He also participated in the “Catharsis/Rebirth” (2012) which took place in the old Turkish Baths in Paphos, in collaboration with the “Cittadellarte” Foundation of Biella, Italy. In 2013 a video documentary of this exhibition was presented in the Louvre Museum as part of the personal exhibition of Michelangelo Pistoletto “Year One-The Paradise on Earth”. The participations in exhibitions continued with “Othello/Rebirth” (2013), a contemporary art show in the abandon derelict cinema “Othellos” in Paphos, “StreetArt Square”, (2015), a street art event which was part of the Official Programme of “PAFOS2017 European Capital of Culture”, “The Fine Art Film Festival” (2015), in Venice, California, which was a film festival focused on fine art films (Sakellis participated with the film “The Box”), "Weaving Europe" and "The Big Mosaic" for the European Capital of Culture PAFOS2017 and various other exhibitions such as: “Risonanze”, “Trame”, “Luoghi”, “Instantanea” (in Italy), and “WindowArt”, “All Colours”, “ECOinsite”, “Athletics”, “Images from Paphos”, “50 years of E.KA.TE.”, “Visual Paphos”, “Lush Art in Austere Times” etc. In addition he curated various art projects such as the “WindowArt” (2012), which was an art show in the abandoned shops of the old market of Paphos’ historical centre, “Catharsis/Rebirth”, “Othello/Rebirth”, “StreetArt Square”, and “AFIEROMATA - Costas Oikonomou” (2013), which was a retrospective exhibition dedicated to the artist Costas Oikonomou, as well as the “50 years of E.KA.TE” (2014) for the 50th anniversary of the Cyprus Chamber of Fine Arts, Risky Travels -a joint sculpture exhibition of the artists Andy Hadjiadamos and Baki Bogac for the E.C.O.C. PAFOS2017, .CY alternative traditional art&design exhibition and The Thresholds of Life in 2019. Throughout his creative work, Sakellis has also taught art: at the private school “American Academy” for 3 years (2010-2013), at the State Youth Centre of Paphos for 5 years (2009-2014), at his Private Studio from 2008 to 2015. In 2015 he co-founded the Kimonos Art Center with a small group of fellow artists where he is based till today. From April 2015 until February 2018 he worked as an event coordinator for the visual events of the  European Capital of Culture PAFOS2017.
