ΚΕΝΤΡΟ ΤΕΧΝΩΝ ΚΙΜΩΝΟΣ
"To practice any art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow.
So do it."
'A man without a country'
In the twentieth century installation makes its appearance as a means of expression. For the first time in art history the work of art is defined in reference to its relation to the space in which it is exhibited and not to the material or the process in which it is made.
The relocation of the attention from the work's material to its position and its set up in space changes the logic of its creation.
The artist can combine a variety of materials as well as prefabricated objects (Duchamp's ready-mades are the purest form of this new logic -besides being its founding moment in history) to form a visual ensemble in a given space. Now, installations are an autonomous and integral form of artistic expression with unlimited possibilities.
The goal of the mixed media lessons offered by the Kimonos Art Center is to offer to the student access to as many materials as possible, in order to allow him to conceive and visualize this kind of works, as well as to be able to see how his already existing work (in other fields of expression) can be changed, enriched and transformed when approached with the logic of the in situ installation. Always convinced by the philosophy of a global approach of the object of our study, the Kimonos Art Center offers, next to the practical and manual exploration of the subject, the knowledge of its historical and theoretical background.
